Personal Donor Stories

We thank all our planned-gift donors for their generous support. Here are some of their stories.

Henry and Amy Liss

Henry Liss, MD, JMC ’48, is grateful for having received the opportunity to attend medical school courtesy of the Navy and G.I. Bill and “wants to give something back”. To that end, Dr. Liss and his wife Amy have generously funded the Amy and Henry Liss Scholarship Fund, as well as providing annual support for Jefferson Medical College. Their Will provides a substantial sum for the scholarship fund, as well.

Anna Kuba – Diploma Nurse 1945

Anna Kuba supports Jefferson through a charitable remainder trust. When asked why, Miss Kuba says, “That’s easy. I wanted to do something to support nursing education. Nurses today need so much more knowledge than when I came out of school.”

Fred Teichman, MD, JMC ‘78

His Gratitude to Jefferson Pays Off
He says, “I was afforded a very good education that led to a great career. And I have Jefferson to thank for it.” Dr. Teichman has established two 15-year deferred gift annuities with Jefferson—a vehicle he says is “perfect” for him. “You don’t know what will happen next. I wanted to insure my future while, at the same time, provide a donation for Jefferson.”

Mrs. Hammell Shipps

With funds from her husband’s will, Mrs. Shipps established a charitable gift annuity in memory of Dr. Shipps that provides her with income for the rest of her life. She says, “I did it for his love of Jefferson.” At her death, the principle of the annuity will pass to Jefferson Medical College.
